Family-Focused Movie Review: Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Does your family enjoy action fantasy adventures like The Mummy, The Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jumanji? Then you will definitely have a great time taking the riveting ride through the Amazon with Disney’s Jungle Cruise on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and DVD. The story, characters, and multi-level humor have very nostalgic stripes for anyone who is familiar with the bumps and curves of the classic Disney roller coaster water ride.

In Disney’s Jungle Cruise, Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) has traveled throughout, determined to find a specific ancient tree with unique healing abilities. She teams up with wisecracking tour guide Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson) on a rollicking ride down the Amazon. Amidst danger and supernatural forces that lurk in the jungle, secrets of the lost tree unfold as their fate hangs in the balance. Buckle up for a bumpy ride!

My family has enjoyed many of the recent live-action Disney movies, and with the highly entertaining movie trailer, we had a healthy level of anticipation for Jungle Cruise. The attention to detail and special effects allowed us to tag along for the ride as the characters encountered innumerable dangers, from wild animals to formidable foes and threats, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rain forest. We had fun getting lost in the jungle adventure with the movie.

According to Stella Rating: Family Viewing Disclaimer (1/low – 5/high scale)
Jungle Cruise is rated PG-13 by the MPAA due to the “sequences of adventure violence.” The movie includes a couple of kisses, several murders (by stabbing and gunshot) with little blood, many scenes of supernatural attacks (with men being swarmed by bees and snakes and lashed to walls and trees by vines before turning to stone), and some mild language. My 16-year old daughter and I give Jungle Cruise a PG-13 rating of:

  • 1 – SEX/NUDITY
  • 4 – VIOLENCE/GORE
  • 1 – PROFANITY
