Around this time of year, as the sun sets earlier and the days turn chillier, we begin watching many of our favorite Christmas and holiday movies in prep for the wintery season. Walt Disney Studios has released a new movie for the holidays: GODMOTHERED.

This week, my 16-year old daughter and I were surprised by how much we enjoyed watching GODMOTHERED. I had a good feeling about the movie featuring Jillian Bell’s deadpan humor, Isla Fisher’s practical-snarky demeanor, and a sprinkle of classic original Saturday Night Live’s Jane Curtin. GODMOTHERED provided all the warm fuzzies of an ELF meets ENCHANTED experience.

SYNOPSIS
Set at Christmas time, GODMOTHERED is a comedy/fantasy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced, and enthusiastic fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell). She learns that her dream profession of being a fairy godmother is facing extinction, so she takes extreme measures to show the world that people still need them.

Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a disheartened 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover – whether she likes it or not.

According to Stella Rating: Family Viewing Disclaimer (1/low – 5/high scale)
GODMOTHERED is rated PG by the MPAA. The only concern I have for younger children are several disguised swear words. Therefore, I give family-friendly GODMOTHERED the following rating for all ages:

  • 1 – SEX/NUDITY
  • 1 – VIOLENCE/GORE
  • 1 – PROFANITY

GODMOTHERED, exclusively on Disney+ © 2020 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
