Well Star Wars friends, we made it to the end of our beloved saga in the stars. Did you grow up with the original movies like I did? As a child in the 70’s/80’s, STAR WARS: EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE was my introduction to the world of science fiction and special effects. Since the trilogy back in 1977-1983, additional pieces were added to the epic drama: books, animated series, prequels, Solo character movies, lego games and more. STAR WARS: EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is the final installment specifically with the Skywalker legacy. Buckle up for screen-full of action, nostalgia and fun.
We like the current trilogy cluster featuring the next generation of Jedi/Skywalker with Rey. We especially enjoy the natural reveal of plot turns, cameos and character arcs, so I am respectfully keeping this review as spoiler-free as possible for you to experience all the fun of the movie.
I have been a fan of Director J.J. Abrams since, “Felicity” (1999) and “Lost” (2004), so between his strong sense of character depth, adventure and intrigue and the wonderful cast and crew, I knew our expectations for a STAR WARS installment would be as entertaining as THE LAST JEDI. According to Stella Rating: Family Viewing Disclaimer (1/low – 5/high scale)
STAR WARS: EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence and action which includes: a couple of kissing scenes, and flirtation; many scenes of flying vessels fighting with explosions and listing ships, many scenes of fighting with people using lightsabers and blaster fire with some ending in death and others with some bloody injuries, and discussions of the murder of parents and conscription of children during war; and a few mild obscenities. I give THE RISE OF SKYWALKER the following rating:
- 1 – SEX/NUDITY
- 4 – VIOLENCE/GORE
- 1 – PROFANITY
My 15-year old daughter prefers more lighthearted entertainment, but has finally shown some interest in the STAR WARS saga with “The Mandalorian”. Now that she is beginning to appreciate the space drama genre, I will be introducing chunks of the Rey/Ren story-line as her interests deepen.
I can’t wait to hear what you think! Feel free to comment with your spoiler-free thoughts.
