FINALLY, the coolest movie of the year, Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE is playing in theaters everywhere! This is the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a movie that must be seen on the big screen! I highly recommend IMAX 3D to fully experience this adventure! And, pssst: STAY thru the credits! Remember, Marvel Universe likes to share sneak peeks of the next chapter…
I cannot imagine ANY but Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange! Who else has the ego, looks, dry humor, voice and can handle the physical aspects of being a super hero?
To celebrate Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE opening this weekend, here are 3 new and awesome clips to whet your appetite:
“The Strange Policy” Clip
Rachel McAdams is a charming, patient and loving colleague and love-interest for Cumberbatch.
“Heal the Body” Clip
Tilda Swinton is perfect in her role. Her pace, attention to detail and mesmerizing nature suit her well as the mysterious Ancient One.
“Sanctum Battle” Clip
Special Effects play a MAJOR role in this picture. Perhaps more than any previous Marvel installment?
What do you think about the clips and all the other trailers and information you have read about the movie? Excited to see DOCTOR STRANGE? Or worried that it may not be as good as the other MARVEL Universe movies?
Well, guess what… I LOVED IT! Hubby and I are usually skeptical of each Superhero movie, because some are great action/adventure rides – while others are disappointing flops. [No names or specific films mentioned to protect anyone from further embarrassment… but we ALL know which ones I mean…]
A movie cannot go wrong with top-notch effects, dazzling story-line and great casting:
- Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game”, “Sherlock”, “Hamlet”)
- Rachel McAdams (“Spotlight”, “The Vow”, “The Notebook”)
- Mads Mikkelsen (“Hannibal”)
- Tilda Swinton (“Michael Clayton”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe”, “Constantine”)
- Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”, “Love Actually”)
Now, onto my spoiler-free review of Marvel’s Doctor Strange: Wonderfully Entertaining Action-packed Thrill Ride. As I anticipated, the incredibly talented cast and production temporarily removed the walls of reality and brought us head-over-heels, directly into the world of Doctor Strange and his origin story.
Who is Doctor Strange?
Man-of-many-faces, Benedict Cumberbatch (“BBC’s Sherlock”, “Hamlet”) introduces us to the extraordinarily talented neurosurgeon, Dr. Stephen Strange: an egotistical scientist who barely survives a tragic car accident and seeks Eastern spirituality for healing techniques. He inadvertently stumbles upon mystical levels of the universe and has to choose between a hero’s path and his previous life.
Family Viewing Disclaimer (1/low – 5/high scale):
My 11-year old daughter has started showing interest in live-action, hero movies. She just cut her teeth on ‘Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles’. Because she prefers more comedy in her action movies, she is still very selective about her movie choices. This weekend, my daughter chose to stay home and play with friends, instead of watching DOCTOR STRANGE on the big screen. I have shown her the trailer, and she is curious enough to give it a chance when we purchase the movie for our home theater. Stay tuned for her personal review.
1 – NUDITY/SEX – This PG-13 movie only shows a single scene of a: bare-chested man, a couple holding each others faces tenderly and an effeminate androgynous wizard.
3 – VIOLENCE/GORE – This is a superhero movie. I would place DOCTOR STRANGE close to the same level of violence as the first Iron Man (2008) [see http://www.kids-in-mind.com/i/ironman.htm]
* There is intense fighting with blades, spears ropes and different objects. People are pretty beaten up, with bruising and bloody gashes.
* The hospital scenes include detailed surgical procedures: bullet removal for example.
* The cripplingly violent car crash can be scary.
2 – PROFANITY – 1 scatological term, 3 anatomical terms, name-calling (hypocrite, coward, murderer, butcher shop, junk idiot), exclamations, 2 religious exclamations (Oh My God) http://www.kids-in-mind.com/d/drstrange.htm.
