Movie Review: The Angry Birds Movie (PG)

May 25, 2016 by Stella

Spread the love

Have you ever played the popular action-puzzle game: Angry Birds? I am sure you have either played it, or seen picture of the round bird characters who are shot across the screen to crash into the green pig building. I have to admit, flinging the birds with a slingshot and knocking down a building can be pretty cathartic.

Some people play the game a few times, every so often. Others have Angry Birds on their mobile device, and may even collect the different versions. Some others only have it on their phone to keep their kids distracted.

My daughter enjoys the game, and has also found short episodes to watch. She especially loves the female, pink “Stella” character for obvious reasons… Can you see the resemblance??

Well, you can imagine her excitement when we first saw the trailer for The Angry Birds Movie:

There was NO question whether or not she was interested in the movie. The only thing we needed to figure out was: “when”. So, last night, we saw the movie and here are our thoughts:

Popcorn Rating - angrybirds

Family Viewing Disclaimer (1/low – 5/high scale):

My 11-year old daughter was bored and did not expect the movie to be as predictable. She was hoping for more than the series episodes show. My husband tapped into his inner 13-year old boy and laughed his butt off throughout the movie.

This movie is not my sense of humor, but I appreciate the story and absolutely enjoyed the cast behind each character.

2 – NUDITY/SEX – It is a PG-rated movie, so all of the nuances are subtle enough that kids would not notice.

2 – VIOLENCE – The movie is based on the game, so there destruction as the birds fight against the pigs.

3 – PROFANITY – Two faux F-words (A bird says “pluck my life” and another bird says “We need angry flocking birds” with emphasis on “flocking”), 3 anatomical terms, 3 scatological terms (whizz, crap), 1 mild obscenity, name-calling (bottom feeder, butcher, bad poet, cheesy, crazy, creepy, disgusting, dumb, dummy, fairy tale, foreign lady, idiots, nuts (crazy), sickos, weird, weirdo, scab, strange, porkers, pork belly, ugly, wackadoodle, Eyebrows, Your Honor), exclamations (shut-up, shut your worm hole, that blows, goodness, oh my goodness, wow, oh man, heck, holy moly, what the …, son-of-a …), 4 religious exclamations (Oh My God). [courtesy of http://www.kids-in-mind.com/a/angrybirdsmovie.htm]

DISCUSSION TOPICS- Anger management, intrigue, greed, theft, lying, kidnapping children (eggs), saving unborn children, gluttony, rejection, teasing, danger, courage, sacrifice, teamwork, community, leadership, cynicism, innovation, friendship, acceptance, healing. [courtesy of http://www.kids-in-mind.com/a/angrybirdsmovie.htm]
