Hubby and I snuck away for a morning matinee of the Coen Brothers new movie, “Hail Caesar”. The star-packed hilarious trailer intrigued us enough to catch it opening weekend:
Apart from having a solid story, characters and dialogue, I really appreciate great casting and cinematography. When I first saw the trailer, I jumped at the chance to watch a film with my favorites in one place:
as well as those I enjoy when they are in their ‘element’:
The Coen Brothers usually attract interesting character actors in their projects. This cast was impeccable. The script was wonderful, and the overall movie was magical. I had a great time watching ‘Hail Ceasar’.
The movie takes place following Josh Brolin’s character throughout the different story lines. This clever piece depicts the movie industry during it’s peak in the 1950’s. The studio was pumping out all sorts of moving pictures, and Brolin’s job as the Hollywood Fixer ensured that production ran smoothly, in spite of all the wacky craziness.
I love stories that show ‘behind the scenes’, like ‘Noises Off’ (1992). The Coen Brothers illustrate both the glamour as well as the political and social layers in Hollywood. They are very creative storytellers, and weave such a delightful tapestry in this movie. I look forward to hearing your comments below.
