I was fortunate to be able to watch the Oscar-potential movie, A Walk in the Woods.
Here is the trailer.
Robert Redford and Nick Nolte play a pair of friends who have known each other for decades. Robert’s character has spent 20 years in England, and decides to reconnect with his American homeland by hiking the Appalachian Trail with Nick.
I am a HUGE Robert Redford fan, starting with ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid‘ (1969), to ‘The Sting’ (1973), and my list goes on. Anything this man touches either as an actor, or a director [‘Ordinary People‘, ‘A River Runs Through It’, ‘Quiz Show’], automatically makes my NEED TO SEE list.
Unfortunately, I could not handle more than 10 minutes of ‘A Walk in the Woods’, and had to walk out of those woods…. my impatience got the best of me.
Why? It was painful to watch Robert, who has not aged well at all…. acting with Nick, who sounds worse than ever – and looks much worse than he sounds. Their appearance was such a distraction that the thin and slow storyline could not hold my attention…
Robert Redford denies plastic surgery… I have no idea what is going on with him… And Nick Nolte, who always had a gravel and gritty voice – sounded awful. His croaking was painful and difficult to listen to, as he bumbled around.
If you end up seeing this movie – please let me know if I missed out, and should give it another chance.
