Who’s ready for more clips and pics from THOR: RAGNAROK? This week, we get to find out what goes into making a great scoundrel! Enjoy this telling look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first female villain: Hela, played by Oscar® winner Cate Blanchett!
In addition to my excitement to see the next chapter of the Marvel Universe with Thor: Ragnarok, I cannot wait to watch Cate Blanchett bring her versatile dynamic talent to the ruthless Hela.
‘Hela’ was inspired from two Marvel comic book series, “Thor: God of Thunder” (2012) and “Planet Hulk” (2006-7). A character, named ‘Gorr’ was roaming the universe killing gods. Hela was infused with his character and the visual aspect of Gorr’s powers.
We have met several villains in the Marvel movies, and they have been anything but one-dimensional and flat. Even vengeful and psychotic Loki ended up being endearing…
Being a huge fan of Cate Blanchett, I know that when she joins a project like this, she will be bring intensity, charm, wit and the rest of her arsenal for a delightful roller-coaster ride of a movie experience.
I was curious about Cate when I first saw her as Lucinda in ‘Oscar and Lucinda’ (1997). Then I was stunned and blown away by her embodiment of Elizabeth l in ‘Elizabeth’ (1998). Her performance of life of the Queen was incredible.
Since then, most of her roles have been anything but simple:
- Connie Falzone/Pushing Tin (1999)
- Galadriel/The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-3)
- Veronica Guerin/Veronica Guerin (2003)
- Katherine Hepburn/The Aviator (2004)
- Daisy/The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
Her virtual chameleon-esque talent and the roles she selects set her up for success in most any entertaining realm: fantasy, drama and now action. What is your favorite Cate Blanchett performance?
